John Gilbert Hayne Hawkins

The document below is in my possession and refers to a John Hawkins discharge papers from the Royal Navy in July 1814.

It seems likely that the John referred to here is is John Gilbert Hayne Hawkins, b. 1771, who would have been about 43 years old on discharge in 1814, and perhaps by 1830, when this oath is sworn, aged 59 is thinking about his Navy pension.

The Hawkins Welbank Connection
Richard Welbank marries Mary Ann Hawkins in 1852.
Ten years earlier, in 1841 census, the families of the above pair were living next door to each other in Sloane Square, Chelsea. After Richard's death Mary Ann re-marries to a William Welbank

In the will of Robert Welbank, ex East India Co. ship captain, in 1857, he names Edward Hawkins the younger and Major Rohde Hawkins as nephews of his wife Sarah Rohde and as co-executors with Sarah of his will. The nephews would be the same generation as Mary Ann.
